The Sashiko Mending Starter Kit helps you turn simple running stitches into a deliberate part of the fabric. Follow a supplied pattern or combine individual lines into a design of your own.

The result does not have to look untouched. The repair can become part of the object’s story.

Start With a Pattern in Place

The set provides two ways to prepare a design.

Place one of the six water-soluble pattern sheets over your fabric and stitch along the printed guide. When the stitching is complete, remove the pattern material according to the supplied instructions.

For a pattern you want to use again, choose one of the eight plastic stencils and transfer the design with a supplied marking pen. Test the pen on a hidden area first, especially when working on a finished garment.

Both options help beginners establish spacing and direction before working freehand.

Practice Before Mending Something You Keep

Six denim fabric pieces give you room to practice stitch length, pattern placement, and thread tension before moving to a favorite garment or bag.

Each piece measures approximately 8.66 × 9.84 inches, or 22 × 25 centimeters. Use them as practice panels, patches, coasters, small wall pieces, or material for another fabric project.

Small variations in denim color or texture may be present.

Tools for the First Stitch

The kit includes sashiko needles, colored threads, marking pens, a thimble, finger covers, basting needles, and tape alongside the fabric and pattern guides.

That gives you a practical starting set for learning the basic running stitch and preparing small projects. Depending on the project, you may also need scissors, pins, an iron, or the garment you intend to mend.

Sashiko develops one stitch at a time.

Work through a small practice square at the kitchen table, take a project to a quiet weekend campsite, or repair a well-used bag after returning home. The compact tools make it easy to begin with a manageable project and continue whenever you have a little time.

Needles should remain securely stored while traveling. Stitch only when you are seated or working at a stable surface, and never while operating a vehicle.
